A career in healthcare had been on Richardson’s mind since high school. He knew he wanted to help patients, but he also knew traditional bedside care wasn’t necessarily the right fit. Now Richardson and fellow trainee Sharilya Hicks are fulltime lab technicians at CMH. For both students-turned-hospital-team-members, finding mentorship in South Hill solidified why they chose this career path and their long-term interest in the community.

In a world where it’s often tough to balance personal and professional goals, the story of Jennifer P. Furr and Jonathan Furr stands out as especially inspiring. After 25 years of marriage, the Furrs celebrated a significant milestone by graduating together from Halifax Community College’s Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program in May 2025.

Meet Raequan Outlaw, a recent graduate of the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program at Halifax Community College and a proud alumnus of Roanoke Valley Early College. From earning his EMT-B certification before finishing high school to becoming a full-time paramedic by age 19, Raequan’s educational journey has been anything but ordinary. Now, with his with his ADN degree in hand and a clear vision for the future, Raequan shares how persistence, planning, and faith have shaped his path.
