High School Diploma Equivalency

Overview of Program

Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes prepare students for the reading, writing and math requirements needed for life, college, and the workplace. Instructors team up with students to improve in areas that assessments and the students indicate are areas of limited skillfulness.

Some classes are designed to provide basic literacy level instruction, while others are designed to prepare for the GED/High School Equivalency Exams. Basic education instruction is offered by face-to-face and distance learning/online.

Classes do not have registration fees. However, students are required to pay examination fees. In North Carolina, all students taking the GED® Examination are required to pay a total of $104 and individuals taking the HiSET® computer-based exam battery must pay $75 that covers the entire battery of High School Equivalency exams. For students who are under the age of 18 years old and requesting to test, must first meet with Mrs. Chavis the Director of College and Career Readiness at [email protected].

Passing either one of the assessments will lead to the same High School Equivalency Credential.
