HCC Opens Cosmetology Classes for All Semesters

WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) will now offer all cosmetology classes during all semesters. This change allows students to complete the program more effectively.

In the past, the beginning cosmetology classes were only offered during the fall semester. This meant that new students could only begin once per year. However, with this change comes the opportunity for more students to complete either the diploma or the degree program, and begin at any point in the academic year.

“Spring semester 2019 brings an update for the Cosmetology program's prospective students,” said Gail Greene, department head of the cosmetology program. “Our curriculum will now offer enrollment for beginner students in the Spring and Fall semesters. No student wants to or should have to wait to begin and complete their career path.”

The addition of classes to the spring curriculum offerings opens up more doors for community members wishing to pursue a career in cosmetology, and puts them on a faster trajectory for completion.

“Our cosmetology program produces the best-skilled salon-ready graduates,” said Dr. Jeffery Fields, vice president of academic affairs for HCC. “We listened to our students and industry suggestions and I’m pleased that we could respond quickly to their needs. Aspiring new students are now able to begin and complete their cosmetology training as soon as possible to begin their new career.”

HCC students have the option to pursue either an Associate degree in Cosmetology, or a diploma in Cosmetology. Both programs take approximately four semesters, and students are trained in hair, skin and nail care and craft.
