HCC Trustee Edwards re-elected to ACCT Board
 
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) Trustee Dr. Stanley Edwards has been re-elected for service on the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Board of Directors. He was selected in 2011 to serve a one-year board appointment for the southern region. The southern region is made up of trustees representing community colleges in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and the territories of Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Bermuda. His re-election occurred during the 43rd Annual ACCT Leadership Congress where Edwards represented the College.

Having served as the chair for the HCC Board of Trustees for a number of years, Edwards currently serves as a member of the executive board for the North Carolina Association of Community College Trustees. He has been an active participant in meetings and policy formation that continues to advance community college education for the citizens of North Carolina and the southern region.

Edwards was also chosen as the 2008 ACCT Regional Trustee Leadership Award Recipient for the southern region. He was unanimously nominated by the HCC Board of Trustees for the honor.

Edwards has served on the following boards in Halifax County: Halifax County Department of Social Services; Weldon City Schools; Trustee Board for Halifax Community College; Board of Deacons for First Baptist Church in Weldon, Board of Directors for the Weldon-Halifax Community Center, Inc. and he currently serves as a commissioner for the town of Weldon.

He received a B.S. degree from Livingstone College; M.S. degree from North Carolina A & T State University; Advanced Degree from N.C. Central University; and, a Doctorate of Education from Nova Southeastern University.

Edwards is married to the former Bertha Kornegay and has three children: Mark, Valerie, and DeVaughn.
