HCC's Bradley-Hasty earns doctorate
WELDON, N.C. Ė Halifax Community College (HCC) Dean of Student Services and Enrollment Management Barbara Bradley-Hasty completed the requirements on March 21, 2012, for a doctor of philosophy degree in Post Secondary/Adult Education from Capella University.

"Getting my doctorate was an investment to help improve my skill set. These newly acquired skills will allow me to continue implementing new strategies to improve student enrollment, retention and graduation rates for the college," said Bradley-Hasty. "We all know that the more students we graduate who are ready to transfer, or go into the workforce, the more our community flourishes."

Bradley-Hasty credited her husband for her success. "My husband, Diego Hasty, was my number one champion. He has always said, 'Honey, go for it' anytime I talked to him about my goals. Many times, he would sit up late hours and pretend he was watching TV because I wanted some company, but he was really asleep. However, I knew he was close by and that made it alright. He is and has always been my rock," she continued.

In addition to the doctorate, Bradley-Hasty holds a masterís degree from Campbell University, licensure in Administration/Supervision and Curriculum Specialists from East Carolina University and a bachelorís degree from Norfolk State University. Her doctoral dissertation was titled, "Faculty Experiences with Academic Advising at 15 Community Colleges in Eastern North Carolina."

An employee of HCC for 16 years, Bradley-Hasty started her tenure at the college in 1996 as an instructor in the Early Childhood Associate/Teacher Associate program. She was promoted to her current position in 2005.
