HCC Delegation attends National Legislative Summit
 
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) trustees and administration attended the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) 2012 Community College National Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 14-16.

In attendance were HCC President Dr. Ervin V. Griffin Sr. along with HCC Board of Trustees Chair Frank V. Avent III, Vice Chair Bernella DeLaMora and board members Lillie J. Solomon and Dr. Stanley Edwards. Dr. Edwards is currently serving on the ACCT Board of Directors for a one-year appointment for the southern region.

While at the summit, the HCC delegation had the opportunity to hear the latest information on federal legislative priorities including Pell Grant funding, workforce development and the Federal Carl Perkins Loan. They also had a chance to meet with United States Congressman G.K. Butterfield of the 1st District of North Carolina. They provided him with an update on the progress of campus upgrades that have resulted from previous federal appropriations. The group also met with senators Richard Burr and Kay Hagan as part of the North Carolina delegation.
