HCC-ECSU sign articulation agreements
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) officials traveled to Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) on Sept. 28 to sign new articulation agreements. Twelve new articulation agreements were signed by officials from four area community colleges at the event. HCC students enrolled in the associate in science and associate in arts transfer programs as well as early childhood education, business administration, industrial systems technology, criminal justice and teacher preparation programs will benefit from the agreements. These agreements will ease the transition for transfer students from HCC to the ECSU campus.

Under the agreement, up to 65 credit hours earned by students in a two-year associate in arts or associate in science program may be transferred to specific ECSU degree programs. Eligible ECSU programs include pre-aviation science; birth through kindergarten education; pre-business administration/marketing; computer engineering/industrial technology; computer engineering technology/engineering technology; associate science, engineering with a minor in mechanical and automation; associate in science, engineering technology with a minor in computer and information technology; pre-criminal justice; pre-marine environmental science; pre-middle grades education; pre-pharmaceutical science with a concentration in biotechnology; and, pre-pharmaceutical science with a concentration in clinical science.

"We want to provide as many baccalaureate degrees on campus as possible that will give our students a seamless transfer," explained HCC President Dr. Ervin V. Griffin Sr. "We appreciate the support that Chancellor Willie Gilchrist has provided for the programs at HCC. This is a true partnership."

As an example of the strong partnership between the colleges, to date, 36 HCC students have enrolled in the HCC associate in arts teacher preparation program and 16 students have transferred to the ECSU 2+2 Teacher Prep program. More than 25 students have graduated from that program. These graduates have gone on to teach in schools throughout eastern North Carolina and Virginia.

During the HCC visit to ECSU, plaques of appreciation for commitment, dedication and outstanding support of the HCC/ECSU 2+2 Teacher Preparation Partnership Program were presented to the college as well as Griffin and Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Erica Holmes.
