HCC hosts area high school juniors learning about careers

Halifax Community College hosted Juniors Learning About Careers (JLAC) Day, March 11 for area high school juniors from Roanoke Rapids, Northampton County-West, and Weldon STEM. Students had the opportunity to explore the campus and hear from instructors and students in different academic areas about careers.

During the general session, HCC President Dr. Ervin V. Griffin Sr. welcomed students.

“This is our fifth year of the JLAC program and we really want to thank you for coming to Halifax Community College,” said Griffin. “As many of you know, we have had record setting enrollment. Our enrollment has grown with traditional-aged students and we really do appreciate that.”

Dean of Student Services Barbara Bradley-Hasty explained the program to students and how tours would proceed. Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Erica Holmes made introductions of faculty and staff. Then, China Wade with SGA, David Laskey with PRIDE and Tonya Mason with Women of Excellence spoke about their organizations.

Students then had the opportunity to tour campus as well as participate in a fair featuring each program offered at HCC.
