 The Healing Force helps everyone find their common place

The Healing Force performed “The Rhythm of the Drum” on Feb. 3 at The Centre at Halifax Community College. The program intertwined music and stories with tales that spoke about many life messages.
“The rhythm of the drum is about everybody finding their common place so we can all celebrate and we can celebrate the same thing, which is each other,” explained Gail Anderson, known as Mama Gail.

The Healing Force celebrates West African culture through storytelling and music. The family of artists delivers high-energy performances, educational residencies and workshops. Founded in 1975 by husband and wife, Joseph and Gail Anderson, the group has performed professionally full-time since 1990 and now features their daughter, Sonji, and son, Karim. The Healing Force is based in Winston-Salem, N.C.
