Twenty-year HCC veteran
Community College’s Ruby Vincent Ward has established the
Ruby Vincent Ward Scholarship this year. Ward has been
employed by the college for 20 years and retired at the end
of January 2011.
The Ruby Vincent Ward Scholarship recognizes and promotes
academic achievement and benefits those students enrolled at
HCC who plan to transfer to Elizabeth City State University
(ECSU) or are in the HCC/ECSU Teacher Prep Program.
To be selected, students must be enrolled full-time in the
Associate of Science or Associate of Arts program; maintain
a 2.5 grade point average; be in good standing at the
college; and, submit a detailed summary of how and why the
scholarship is needed.
When asked why she established the
scholarship, Ward explained, “I wanted to give something
back to HCC and to the students. I love the students and
they mean a lot to me. HCC has given me opportunities to
start my professional career and then re-start my career
when I needed to. I am so grateful to have been employed at
HCC for 20 years. I will forever cherish the powerful
relationships, rewarding experiences, and unforgettable
friendships that I gained during my tenure at Halifax
For more information on establishing a
scholarship, contact the HCC Foundation Office at (252)

issued a challenge to other personnel who are retiring to
also establish scholarships to benefit HCC students.
