Gang Awareness Workshop held at Halifax
On Oct. 13, the PRIDE male mentoring group
hosted a Gang Awareness Workshop.
The purpose of the workshop was to raise general
awareness of gangs. Gangs are on the rise, not only in
individual communities, but in the state as well.
The workshop helped those in attendance identify the
types of gangs that exist and how to prevent our children
The presenter for the workshop was Johnny Arrington who
works at Caledonia Correctional Center.
Arrington emphasized that children and
young adults need to get their education. He shared his
personal story and said that he was not good in school and
could have easily taken the wrong direction in life.
Arrington had a mentor, though, who helped him learn to read
and get back on the right track. “Education is the key to
changing your life around,” he added.
