HCC offers EMT-Intermediate Class

Halifax Community College (HCC) will offer an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Intermediate class beginning Tuesday, Aug. 3. The class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. at the Weldon campus. Some Saturday classes will be required. The textbook, “AAOS Intermediate Emergency Care” and its workbook are required.

Students will also register in an EMT-Intermediate Online Supplement class. The class consists of 12 modules with five hours of material each. This accompanies the classroom section.

The third section of the course consists of 60 hours of clinical training on an ambulance and 48 hours of training in the hospital.

Students must take reading, writing and math placement tests in order to register for EMT-Intermediate. Students who do not score at the 12th grade level may enroll in the Learning Lab in Building 500 free of charge and will be allowed to re-test only on completion of 15 hours of remediation.
