Hux Memorial Scholarship
established at HCC
Emery and Yvonne Doughtie have
established the Rev. and Mrs. Daniel Hux Memorial
Scholarship this year. The scholarship will benefit an HCC
nursing student. Selection is based on program of study, a
3.0 grade point average, financial need and community
involvement.
Rev. Hux, a native of Darlington, founded
churches in the area and was a major proponent of education.
He started Community Center Baptist Church, Darlington
Baptist Church, South Rosemary Baptist Church, and
re-established Quankie Baptist Church. “He really loved this
area,” added Yvonne Doughtie.
“Also, we have a granddaughter who is a
nurse and a graduate of the college so that’s the reason we
wanted to focus on the nursing program,” explained Peggy
Haskins, mother of Yvonne Doughtie.

information on establishing a scholarship, contact the HCC
