Sixth annual Women to Women Conference to be held at HCC
WELDON, N.C. – The Halifax Community College (HCC) Women of Excellence (WOE) mentoring group will hold its sixth annual Women to Women Conference on Thursday, March 26 in The Centre as part of HCC's celebration of Women's History Month. This year's theme is "Unleashing the Power of Great Possibilities." The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Venessa Harrison, president of AT&T North Carolina, will be the keynote speaker. In addition, a women's panel discussion will feature:

  • Judge Brenda Branch
  • Cathy Scott
  • Kimberly Bracy
  • Marty Hackney
Attendees will be able to take part in different breakout sessions and a line dancing/Zumba class. Door prizes will be available and area vendors will be on site to sell various items.

"We are so excited to present the sixth annual women's conference this year and we hope the community will come out and join us for the wonderful event," explained HCC Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Deryl Davis Fulmer. "The conference will give women from all walks of life information designed to enrich and empower their lives."

There is no charge to attend the conference, but donations for lunch will be accepted. Registration is required and runs through March 23. This event is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Education PBI Formula Grant.

The mission of WOE is to set the standards for females pursuing personal and professional excellence. Values include modeling dignity, honesty, integrity, respect and responsibility as a way of life. The HCC Student Government Association chartered the group in fall 2008.

About Venessa Harrison
Venessa Harrison is president of AT&T North Carolina. Harrison was named to her current position in March 2013, having previously served as regional vice president of external affairs. In her current position, she is responsible for the public policy, economic development and community affairs activities of AT&T, a leading provider of wireless and wireline communications services. In her role, she works closely with state and community leaders to help bring new technology and jobs to the state and improve the quality of life for all North Carolinians.

A native North Carolinian, Harrison is a 33-year veteran of AT&T and its predecessor companies. Beginning her career in the operator services organization, she moved through positions of increasing responsibility in the network, business and regulatory, and external affairs departments.

In addition to her responsibilities in the company, Harrison has also been very involved in community and charitable activities. She currently serves on the Governor's Education Cabinet and on the boards of the North Carolina Chamber, North Carolina Business Leaders for Education, the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, the Capital City Club and the Cardinal Club. Harrison holds a business administration degree from the University of Phoenix. She is married with two children.
