RV FIT Groundbreaking Ceremony held at HCC
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Roanoke Valley Fitness Interactive Trail (RV FIT) on June 30 on the Campus Green.

"Although the FIT will be housed on the HCC campus, we want the community to know that the facility will be open to everyone to use," said HCC President Dr. Ervin V. Griffin Sr. "I would like to especially thank the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust for providing a $150,000 grant that will fund the majority of the project. HCC will provide some funding as well."

The project’s aim is to improve the lives of local residents by providing a 1/6 mile oval-shaped trail with three fitness areas, featuring multigenerational equipment. Solar lights will provide lighting for the community to work out during evening hours. There will be no charge to take advantage of the FIT.

An advisory committee made up of HCC personnel and community partners will work together on the project. Community partnerships will continue to be sought and additional partners will be added to the advisory committee as the project moves forward.

The advisory committee includes:
