Halifax CC holds pinning ceremony for Class of 2014 Dental Hygiene and Nursing students
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) held an Associate Degree Dental Hygiene and Associate Degree Nursing Graduates Pinning Ceremony for the class of 2014, May 8.

Halifax County Health Director Dr. Cardra Burns gave the keynote address. Burns encouraged graduates and noted that they can achieve anything—nothing is impossible. "Can't is not a word or an option," said Burns.

She also said that when recent graduates start out in the workplace, they may not know exactly what to do. "Have the courage to realize that you're not perfect…no one is. It's OK not to know all the answers…Ask questions, ask for help, find a mentor and later be a mentor."

Burns added that life is short, so enjoy it. "Always be positive…Surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you even when you don't see it in yourself," she said.

"All of you have already reached one important accomplishment tonight. Keep going. Do not rest," said Burns, encouraging graduates to maintain and continue their education.

She concluded by saying, "Each of you are setting out on a path that will make a difference and an impact in the lives of others…Make sure your contributions to society are productive."
