HCC Child Care Center to host 2013 St. Jude Trike-A-Thon
WELDON, N.C. The Halifax Community College (HCC) Child Care Center will host a Trike-A-Thon event benefitting St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital on Oct. 25 from 3:30-5 p.m. at the Wellness Center basketball court.

By participating in or attending the event, individuals will help raise funds for the world's premier pediatric cancer research center. These funds will help St. Jude in its ongoing fight against childhood cancer and other catastrophic diseases. The event will feature two to four-year-olds peddling their trikes around a track. To date, the HCC Child Care Center has raised more than $7,000 for St. Jude.

Trike-A-Thon is a program that exposes children to proper trike and riding-toy safety habits. It educates parents about the importance of riding-toy safety and raises funds to fight childhood cancer. At the HCC event, sponsors can either give a monetary amount per lap or pledge a flat donation for the children to participate.

St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tenn., St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities across the world. The hospital is financially supported by the ALSAC, its fundraising organization, through events such as Trike-A-Thon. For more information, visit www.stjude.org.

HCC's Child Care Center is a five-star, National Association for the Education of Young Children-accredited facility that is open on weekdays. It is designed to meet the developmental needs of young children, ages 2-5. The center provides a variety of hands-on experiences through creative art, science discoveries, motor development, sensory activities, dramatic play and language activities. The center's staff serves as positive role models and provides care that is supportive, nurturing, warm and responsive to children's needs.

The event is open to parents and children, ages 2-5, from the community. Contact Director of the HCC Child Care Center Vicki Collier at vcollier577@halifaxcc.edu or call 252-536-6385 to register or for more information.
