Safelite Glass Corp. partners with Halifax Community College

When SafeliteŽ Glass Corp. needed help training maintenance and engineering personnel to work on the first-ever production robot in the county, Halifax Community College's Continuing Education Department responded.

Through HCC's customized training section, about 15 Safelite employees received electrical and robotics training through a partnership with HCC and East Carolina University (ECU). ECU provided a smaller robot that was used for the hands-on portion of the training. This was the first such class for robotics conducted at Safelite.

HCC's Business & Industry Coordinator Larry Crisafulli found out about this need during his follow up with businesses in the region. As he explained, "The robot really allowed Safelite to meet increased demands for its products and reduce costs without costing jobs."

According to Engineering Manager Liza Cobb, the training went well and there was a lot of positive feedback. "The robotics training that Halifax Community College was able to deliver to Safelite played an integral role in providing our maintenance group the tools needed to understand and work with this new technology. We look forward to continuing our partnership with HCC and the resulting positive impact on our overall manufacturing process as well as future endeavors," said Cobb.
