ARBOR DAY COMMEMORATED WITH TREE PLANTING

Halifax Community College (HCC) Horticulture Technology students, faculty and staff commemorated Arbor Day by planting an Amur Maple tree in front of The Centre, March 19. Students also planted a Kousa Dogwood in the same area. Those who took part in the planting were (from left): student Jerry Dickerson, Vice President of Instructional Services Dr. Joy Cooley, students George Brantley, Sarah Glancy, Instructor's Assistant Melvin Pender, student Chris Edgerton, Greenhouse/Grounds Maintenance Instructor Peggy Lynn, Horticulture Technology Instructor Carolyn Evans, and HCC President Dr. Ervin V. Griffin, Sr. Arbor Day is celebrated on the first Friday after March 15 in North Carolina. Due to inclement weather on Friday, the ceremony was postponed. The holiday encourages the planting and care of trees.
