Veterans, active duty service members, and their dependents may be eligible for various educational benefits to help finance their education. Halifax Community College’s Veterans Affairs office is here to assist you with any questions you may have.
Steps to claim your education benefits
If you are a U.S. veteran or the spouse or child of a U.S. veteran, then you may be eligible for education benefits through the GI Bill®. Visit the GI Bill® website to determine your eligibility and apply for benefits. Complete the Veterans Online Application (VONAPP) to apply for the VA Education Benefit that will best benefit you. For detailed information of the Chapter benefits, please refer to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (www.gibill.va.gov).
Submit your Certificate of Eligibility or a copy of your 22-1990 Application for Benefits, as well as a copy of your DD-214 to the Office of the Registrar. If you are the spouse or child of a veteran, you must first apply for a Transfer of Eligibility from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Apply for admission to Halifax Community College. After being accepted for enrollment you must register for classes (APPLY HERE).
Take your schedule to the Registrar. Educational benefits can only be used for courses required by your degree plan (major).
The Registrar will certify your enrollment, and tuition and fees where applicable with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
If you are receiving VA Educational benefits, view your Financial Aid Shopping Sheet (College Financing Plan) through your Self Service account.
To view your progress toward program completion, view your “Progress Plan” through your Self Service account. Additionally, you should consult with your advisor and the Registrar/Director of Veterans Affairs if you have questions regarding your program.
