Reconstruction Paves the Way for Re-energizing Pedagogical Practices for Developmental Math at the Community College
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College staff presented a session at the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) at its 2015 Annual Meeting in Houston, TX. The HCC team focused on developmental education and the challenges it poses for students. Efforts at the national, state, and institutional levels have intentionally targeted developmental education for redesign in an attempt to shorten the time it takes students to enter curriculum-level courses and matriculate. This session discussed instructional delivery methods that align with the goals of acceleration, modular styles, technological integration that allow students to advance more quickly to curriculum-level mathematics courses and the use of instructional strategies to infuse energy/innovation into redesign initiatives is critical to the success of students learned outcomes.

HCC Facilitators for this session were Mr. Marcus Lewis, QEP Director/Research Associate; Dr. Adriane Leché, Dean, Institutional Effectiveness, Planning, and Assessment and Mr. Calvin Stansbury, Chair of the School College Transfer Business and Education.
