NC Back-to-Work Program in full swing at HCC
WELDON, N.C. – Through a $120,000 grant from the North Carolina Community College System, Halifax Community College (HCC) is providing nearly 100 students with targeted, short-term training that will lead to a variety of career-specific, nationally-recognized credentials in the following areas at no cost to those who qualify:
  • Automotive systems
  • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning
  • Industrial maintenance
  • Waste water plant operator
  • Weatherization
  • Welding
Training provides area employers with trained workers and Roanoke Valley citizens with back-to-work skills. It also includes the Career Readiness Certification, Human Resources Development and OSHA safety training courses.

The program, which kicked off in January, focuses on assisting able-bodied persons who are unemployed or underemployed. Participants are nontraditional students who desire job training. HCC is working with students to provide necessary training and will help them gain employment.
