Criminal Justice Technology

Overview of Program

The Criminal Justice Technology program’s curriculum is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the various facets of criminal justice systems. Through a diverse range of courses, students will gain in-depth knowledge of the U.S. Constitution, the judicial system, corrections, criminology, law enforcement practices, and other important areas of study. This program aims to prepare students for successful careers in the criminal justice field by providing them with the necessary skills and expertise to navigate this complex and dynamic field effectively.

Course Requirements

Textbooks, laptop, internet access on campus and off campus, notebooks, and pens or pencils.

Program Admission Requirements

The student must meet HCC’s admission requirements. The student must also complete a major form in the admissions office to choose a criminal justice program: the general CJC track, 2+2 CJC track with Elizabeth City State University, or 2+2 CJC track with East Carolina University.

Possible Employment Opportunities

After graduation, employment opportunities exist in a variety of local, state, and federal judicial, law enforcement, corrections, and security agencies.

Judicial positions are available for those interested in working as court officers, legal assistants, administrative assistants, and more. Students can also transfer to a four-year college or university to earn a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice to become a probation or parole officer, youth counselor,

Corrections positions are available for those interested in working as correctional officers, detention officers, administrators, food services officers, and others helping to manage and rehabilitate inmates.

Furthermore, graduates may pursue careers in security agencies where they can work in private security firms, corporate security departments, or as security consultants.
