State Authorization, which is included in the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (amended 2010), requires educational institutions to secure authorization to offer instruction in that state. Every state is different and can have different educational requirements for courses and programs designed to meet professional licensure or certification. This is important to know when considering registering for out-of-state courses or if planning to seek employment in another state.

Some programs at Halifax Community College are designed to lead to a professional license and/or certification. Beginning July 1, 2020, the U.S. Department of Education regulations require disclosures for all programs leading to a license or certification. Disclosures will be provided for all states and will indicate whether the program meets state educational requirements for licensure or certification, does not meet state educational requirements for licensure or certification, or has not made a determination.
Any out-of-state student planning to seek professional licensure or certification in their planned state of employment, should visit our Professional Licensure and Certification page to determine who to contact and whether or not our curriculum will meet the state educational requirements for licensure or certification for their state.
