An international student is an individual who needs to be issued an 1-20 form to be eligible to student in the United States.
In order to be considered for international admissions at HCC you must do the following:
Upon completion of the international admissions packet, it must be submitted to:
The packet will then be evaluated and forwarded to SEVIS. If your application is accepted you will be issued a Form I-20 to obtain your Student Visa. Further questions may be answered on our website at www.halifaxcc.edu or call 252-536-7225. NOTE: Application deadline is March 1st of each year.
Your application will not be considered until all of the following items have been received.
To be considered for Fall semester admissions during any academic year, all of the above items must be received by March 1 of the same year. The college will inform you as to whether or not you have been accepted. The Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) will not be issued until the admissions process is complete. Proficiency in the use of the English Language and past academic record will be important factors in the admission decision. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all foreign applicants.
To obtain materials and information regarding the TOEFL write to: Test of English as a Foreign Language, Box 899, Princeton, NJ 08540 USA. Please specify code number 5208 when requesting TOEFL scores to be reported to FTCC.
Applicants must score at least a 550 on the paper TOEFEL, and at least a 213 on the computer-based TOEFL, and at least a 79 on the internet TOEFL, as recommended by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.
As part of the admission process to HCC and before visa approval to leave your country is granted, you must show evidence of official financial support for each year you will be studying in the United States. This college cannot provide financial aid to students applying from other nations, so you must certify your own financial support. Many international students receive financial help from sources outside the United States. Therefore, we suggest you consult the excellent publications about studying abroad which may be available through your educational institutions or the United States Consulate in your country. You should also investigate financial assistance that may be available through your government or home university.
HCC is tax supported by the people of North Carolina. Legal residents of North Carolina and the United States are given preference in the admission process. Therefore, foreign applicants are accepted only on a space availability basis.
After reading the above information, if you feel you would be a qualified applicant, please complete and return all information by March 1 to:
It is your responsibility to have your school principal or headmaster send an official high school (secondary) transcript directly to us. If you have attended an American college or university and have semester hours of transferable college work, you must have an official transcript sent directly from that college or university.
