College and Career Readiness

Adult Basic Education (ABE)

Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes prepares students for the reading, writing and math requirements needed for life, college, and the workplace. Instructors team up with students to improve in areas that assessments and the students indicate are areas of limited skillfulness.

Some classes are designed to provide basic literacy level instruction, while others are designed to prepare for the GED/high school equivalency exam. All classes are designed to provide reading, writing, and math instruction in the context of college and career development.

Reading classes are also offers for nonreaders and/or low skilled readers. The class is designed to help adults who are not skilled in reading or for whom reading has always been a challenge. Instructors help and guide students’ development in the reading process. For more information, please contact Phyllis Chavis at 252-536-7235 or email at
