SECU Partnership East Offers Opportunity for HCC Students |
|
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) and the State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Partnership East offer opportunities for local residents to earn a degree in education.
The SECU Partnership East is an East Carolina University (ECU) College of Education initiative to help equip more students across the state. The program, according to their website, is a "degree completion program with North Carolina community colleges."Students participating in the program can earn degrees in elementary education (K-6), middle grades education, or special education.
Students at HCC who desire to enter the education field begin by taking their general education course work during their first two years at HCC. Upon completion, and acceptance into ECU, students then begin their four-year education completely online. All coursework is delivered remotely, with students being placed in public classrooms for observations and student teaching at the end of their academic tenure.
Upon graduation, students have an education degree from ECU, and are qualified to take the necessary teaching exams and enter the classroom.
"The SECU Partnership East offers a tremendous opportunity for our students here at HCC," said Dr. Michael Elam, president of HCC. "Not only do they gain a quality education at both Halifax Community College and East Carolina University, but they are also afforded the opportunity to stay in the Roanoke Valley to begin their careers. This ensures that the best teachers are right here in our community, and have been trained by the very best."
