HCC Begins 50th Academic Year
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) began its 50th academic year on Tuesday, Aug. 15.

Throughout the day, steady streams of students filed on to campus to begin another fall semester. As the numbers increased, so did the energy.

Student Support Services, a division of the Student Services division, hosted the "HCC Hot Spot," offering students assistance with any element of the their academic career. In the background, there was music playing, mingled with the sound of friends catching up from the summer. In addition, the P.R.I.D.E. male mentoring program worked to help students and get interested individuals signed up for the program.

As part of the festivities, the HCC Alumni Association partnered with the Student Government Association to offer free hot dogs to all students, faculty and staff. Columbus Jeffers, president of the newly-formed HCC Alumni Association, was on hand to speak with students and offer encouragement for the semester.

"The Alumni were pleased to partner with the SGA for the hotdog give away," he said. "This is the type of teamwork it takes to make HCC successful. We are looking forward to partnering with others at HCC. The late, great Mr. Frank Avent had a saying that is always true: ‘Working together works.’"

The start of the fall semester is underway. HCC’s 50th year has officially commenced.
