HCC partnered with Wake Medical Center's helicopter staff in a practice skills and assessments training event
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) practical nursing and second level advanced nursing classes participated in a practice to demonstrate skills and assessments on Wednesday, April 13. This training was based on lecture content provided in the nursing program. The students demonstrated skills including physical assessments, starting IVs and routine care of patients based on individual scenarios given by faculty. Assistance was given from registered nurses and a respiratory therapist from Halifax Regional Medical Center.

An important part of this training was for students to identify the most critical patients for "transfer." Wake Medical Centerís helicopter staff joined HCC students as part of their health care outreach/public relations program. The Wake Medical Center helicopter staff helped coordinate this event.

This practice provided the students an opportunity to correlate skills and knowledge learned over the past two years in the practice environment.
