Congressman G. K. Butterfield visits the Roanoke Valley
WELDON, N.C. – Congressman G. K. Butterfield, representing North Carolina's first congressional district, visited the Halifax Community College (HCC) campus on March 31. Congressman Butterfield thanked Dr. Griffin and commended Halifax Community College for being one of the leading community colleges in the state. Butterfield said "like Halifax County; I've been coming to Halifax and Northampton as long as I can remember."

Butterfield stated that "our country is facing great challenges right now, greater than in memory. At the end of the day, the problem is the country has a serious deficit." Butterfield also gave updates on affordable health care, education, investments in rural communities and federal programs that support low-income and middle-class Americans. Butterfield was joined in a panel discussion with Retired Congresswoman Eva M. Clayton, U. S. House of Representatives, Mr. Randy Gore, Director USDA Rural Development, Mr. Phil Farland, District Director USDA Farm Service Agency and Mr. Taylor Hawkins, Manager, Division of Workforce Solutions. President/CEO Dr. Ervin V. Griffin, Sr. served as moderator.
