HCC hosts Spring Fling Go Green 2016 |
|
WELDON, N.C. – The Halifax Community College (HCC) Student Government Association sponsored Spring Fling Go Green 2016 on March 16 at the new Roanoke Valley Fitness Interactive Trail on campus. The event featured DJ 3-2-1, caricatures by Bruce Stevenson, dunking tank, go green relay games, flavored ice, cotton candy, popcorn and lunch. As part of Spring Fling, the Go Green Committee celebrated Earth Day with a Go Green Art Contest and a Go Green Up-Cycle Sale. Several HCC departments and clubs were represented at the event as well as Weldon Fire Department, Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad, Halifax County EMS and Halifax County Public Health System, and among others.
Winners in the welding art competition included students Alonzo Melton, James Evans, Robert McRae and Taylor Harris. Melton and Evans took home first place honors for “Gears of Time”, McRae won second place honors for “Lumber Jack” and Harris won third place honors. Winners in the HCC Recycle Art Sculpture Contest included Margaret Murga for Seymour (fly trap) and Caroline Harris for skee ball game.
