HCC Board of Trustees swears in new member during February Meeting
WELDON, N.C. – The Halifax Community College (HCC) Board of Trustees met Feb. 23 on campus for their monthly meeting.

The trustee board approved the consent agenda which included approval of the minutes from the Jan. 26 regular meeting and HCC Self-Supporting Class Policy.

Student Government Association President Cynthia Edwards was sworn in as the latest board member.

Committee reports were given by buildings and grounds, finance, personnel and student services and academics. Academics reported on program reviews for 2015-16 as follows: Associate in Arts, Medical Laboratory Technology, Automotive Technology, Medical Office Administration, Criminal Justice Technology and Paralegal Technology. All programs were approved for continuation.

The chairman commented on statement of economic interest and ethics training, Connect NC Bond Resolution on the Northampton County Board of Commissioners Agenda, Feb. 17, Women of Excellence Conference, board retreat and the ACCT National Legislative Summit/RCCA Legislative Day.

Some of the highlights from Dr. Griffin's report included:
  • Rev. Richard Allen stamp unveiled at the ninth HCC Stamp Dedication
  • HCC administrators and staff toured Weldon Steel as part of an effort to visit all of the businesses and industries that the College serves
  • Fourth Leadership Institute kicked off on Feb. 5 with 13 members
  • HCC host site for the Joint Select Committee on Redistricting
  • 2016 Saluting Our Local African-American Heroes Program
  • Aspen Institute, Roadmap to Excellence follow up
  • Alpha Eta Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society induction
  • 2016 Community College Federal Legislative Priorities
  • NCCCS 2016 budget recommendations
  • Update on Gainful Employment
  • Acceptance of the Default Management Plan and decision letter for the Loan Servicing appeal
Updates were also provided from the BLET, Workforce & Economic Development, NC Career & College Promise, National Academy Foundation, AACC Advancing Diversity Award Finalist, default prevention management plan monthly status report, financial reports, on-state expenditures, county expenditures, Centre expenditures, Brick-by-Brick Campaign, calendar of events, HCC Foundation, Inc fundraising for 2017 "HCC Celebrates 50 Years," The Children Series, "The Frog Prince," student government elections, Black History Quiz Bowl and the 2016 N4CSGA Spring Conference.
