QEP: Quality Enhancement Plan

Topic Selection

Halifax Community College began the process of choosing a QEP to guide us through the next five to ten years officially in Fall 2017. Research conducted during the development of HCC’s 2017-2022 strategic plan that included SWOT analysis from faculty, staff, students and board of trustees as well as findings presented in a February 2016 Aspen Institute feedback report revealed the need to address several key areas as a means to improve retention, persistence, and student success in general. Key focus areas based on research included 1.) advising, 2.) clear educational pathways, 3.) clearly defined student learning outcomes, 4.) improving performance measures, and 5.) retention/enrollment.

These findings resulted in the administration of an electronic (Survey Monkey) QEP Area of Focus Survey from November 3, 2017 to December 6, 2017. All faculty, staff, students and administration were given the opportunity to participate in the survey.
