About HCC

Halifax Community College is a public, two-year college within the North Carolina Community College System. The campus is located in Weldon, North Carolina, near the southern Virginia border. This rural area of the state features beautiful Lake Gaston and is situated on I-95, within a 1-3 hour drive from the coast, mountains, and larger metropolitan areas. The College serves Halifax County and part of Northampton County with a population of approximately 65,000 people.

Established in 1967, Halifax Community College is one of the oldest in the North Carolina Community College System, offering associate’s degree programs and continuing education. Halifax Community College is also a member of the American Association of Community Colleges, the North Carolina Community College System, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

In 2023, Dr. Patrena Benton Elliott became Halifax Community College’s sixth and first female president.

Applicant Categories

A new student is an individual who is attending college for the very first time since graduation high school.

A transfer student is an individual who has attended another college or university and is seeking a degree, diploma, or certificate at HCC.

A returning student is a former HCC student returning to school after an absence of two years or more.

A special who is currently enrolled at another college and wants to take courses at HCC to transfer back to their home institution or a student who needs to take a few pre-requisite courses to enter a program at another college or university.
