Fire Services Program

When the fire alarm goes off, firefighters have to be ready to answer the calls to save lives and protect property within their community. Halifax Community College takes great pride in training area men and women to perform these heroic tasks. HCC works diligently to offer the necessary training to these professionals both on and off campus at local fire departments. HCC has been innovative offering new courses such as PADI certified underwater rescue as well as core classes for new members and refreshers for the veteran firefighters. We offer the following courses:

Firefighter Certification: COSFM Certification program of 22 NFPA compliant classes (345 hours).

Driver Operator Certification: Includes Emergency Vehicle Driving, Pump and Aerial Operation (204 hours) .

Technical Rescue Certifications: Includes the core class of General Technical Rescuer (81 hours) and all of the NCOSFM specialty classes such as extrication, water rescue, wilderness, agriculture and more.

National Fire Academy Certifications: Numerous NFA certified courses in terrorist response, arson, leadership and many more.

Custom Programs: We offer a wide variety of specialized classes such as Underwater Rescue, Hazardous Materials Responses and more.
