HCC Receiving Nominations for Community Bridge Builder Award
Halifax Community College (HCC) is proud to announce the opening of nominations for its 2019 Community Bridge Builder award.

The Roanoke Valley consists of countless communities. Whether they are faith-based organizations, towns and cities, academic institutions, or other social groups, these communities are the lifeblood of the area. Without working together and building bridges to connect and support each other, none of these communities could really thrive.

HCC’s Bridge Builders award honors individuals who have developed and fostered partnerships across social, racial or demographic lines for the betterment of the Roanoke Valley. Through these connections, these individuals have pioneered initiatives that stand as important examples of what can be accomplished when differences are put aside to achieve a common goal.

"Halifax Community College strives to be a leader in the community promoting positive change that leads to enlightened residents and improved quality of life,” said Dr. Michael Elam, president of HCC. “It is my hope that by recognizing community bridge builders the admirable traits that they exhibit will be proliferated and propel our community to its highest level.”

The Community Bridge Builder award recipient must embody a commitment to establishing connections that increase collaboration between communities. Whether they have developed long-term partnerships to increase employment, or worked to minimize bullying in their schools, the recipient will have a unifying spirit and an undaunted drive for improving the standard of living for all of the Roanoke Valley residents.

Nominations can be submitted through the HCC website at www.halifaxcc.edu/bridgebuilders, or by submitting directly to Molly Wallace, director of public relations and marketing, at mwallace786@halifaxcc.edu. Nominations must include an example of one or more bridge building activities that have improved connections between individuals or organizations. The nomination should also include examples of the benefits experienced because of the connections. The deadline for submission is Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 5 p.m.
