Law Enforcement Services
Halifax Community College offers courses for people who are looking to become employed in the field of Law Enforcement, Detention or Telecommunicator services. Listed below are the certification courses and the hours required for completion.
Basic Law Enforcement Training - 723 hours; 36 specialized blocks of instruction including Firearms, Defensive Tactics and Driving.
Detention Officer Certification Course - 172 hours; 22 specialized blocks of instruction including Processing Inmates, Defensive Tactics and Report Writing.
Telecommunicator Certification Course - 47 hours; 10 specialized blocks of instruction including Call Taking, Dispatching and Customer Service.
Halifax Community College also offers a full range of mandated courses that are required for currently certified law enforcement, Detention, Telecommunicator and Correctional Officers to maintain their certification. For a list of upcoming classes see our schedule link.
Custom classes - We offer a variety of specialized classes such as Supervision Management, SWAT, Advanced Firearms and Crime Scene Investigation. Other Concealed Carry classes may be added upon request.
