Message from from the PRIDE Director
Greetings STEM Men & Friends, I am pleased to welcome you to Halifax Community College (HCC), and the PRIDE of Halifax Male Mentoring Program’s 10th Annual Men to Men Summit. Our theme for this year is Roanoke Valley STEM Men "Creating the NEW Normal...Destination: "THE FUTURE!"
This year’s theme pays tribute to all of those STEM trailblazers that came before us and set the stage for all of their accomplishments and contributions to humanity –known and unknown. This is the message that symbolizes who we seek to become and how we grow together as a P.R.I.D.E. brotherhood.
The 2017 Tenth Men to Men Summit will help prepare middle, high school, and college men to think more critically about educational attainment in STEM Careers and personal responsibility, while becoming productive members of our communities and keeping a watchful eye on others, since none of us can survive in this world alone. Remember the phrases, "no man is an island", and "there’s no "I" in team." In other words, "we must be our brother’s keeper", and this theme should resonate in everything we do.
I am reminded of an old African Proverb that speaks to the way I am asking you to live your life:
Each morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up, and knows it must run faster than the fastest lion to live another day. Also...each morning in Africa, a lion wakes up and knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.Motto: It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up, you better start running!
