HCC Hosts 50th Convocation

WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) hosted its 50th Convocation on August 1 to kick off the fall semester.

Faculty and staff came together to begin preparations for the start of school, and to receive a "state of the College" update. Dr. Michael Elam, president of HCC, started the event by detailing updates to the campus, as well as to inspire all employees to recommit themselves to the mission and values of HCC.

"This is one of the most exciting times of the year," Elam said. “Convocation is the one time during the academic year when all staff are required to be present to receive direction and updates from college leadership that promotes college efficiency and alignment. It is also a time for college employees to re-commit to working to fulfill the College’s mission and values, and to providing the highest quality of service necessary to help our students and community to achieve their goals. Finally, it is a time of fellowship. We use this time to interact with colleagues, recognize employee accomplishments, and review other changes that may impact operations. We basically come together to get on one accord and to be energized for the coming semester’s challenges and opportunities.”

In addition to Elam’s address, each vice president of HCC presented information from their respective departments. This gave faculty and staff the opportunity to remember last year’s departmental successes, and become current on this year’s new policies.

As HCC prepared for the start of its 50th academic year, the excitement was palpable. Classes begin on August 15. Registration is open, and the admissions staff is available to assist anyone in the community. For more information, contact the HCC admissions department at 252-536-7225.
