HCC to Host "50 for Fifty" Gala

WELDON, N.C. – On January 21, Halifax Community College (HCC) will be celebrating 50 years of service to the Roanoke Valley Community with its “50 for Fifty” gala. Beginning at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour, guests will enjoy a night of dinner and dancing.

Since being founded in 1967, HCC has served as a beacon of hope and a springboard for success for many in the Roanoke Valley. Through its programs, HCC has trained countless nurses, police officers, teachers, welders, cosmetologists, dental hygienists, and many other professions in our community. With a strong commitment to higher education, HCC is poised for an even brighter future.

In addition to celebrating 50 years of service, HCC will also be paying tribute to its fourth president, Dr. Ervin V. Griffin. Since arriving on campus in 2006, Dr. Griffin has propelled HCC to new heights, increased its program offerings, and remained committed to student success. Dr. Griffin is retiring after more than10 years as president of HCC and over 30 years in higher education. Under his leadership, new partnerships with four-year institutions were formed to increase educational opportunities for the Roanoke Valley. In addition, Dr. Griffin instituted the Roanoke Valley Early College, which gives high school students the opportunity to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate degree.

The citizens of the Roanoke Valley are invited to participate in this legacy event, contributing to the next 50 years of education at HCC.
