HCC Fire/EMS Re-Certified for Five Years

WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) received its re-accreditation from the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshall.

HCC is responsible for the initial and continued training of all of the service area first responders. To be able to maintain accreditation for the fire service from the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal (NCOSFM) gives credibility to the college's classes, but also to the responders that take the courses. They are held to high standards of proficiency in many of the life-saving tasks in which a firefighter would be involved during the process of maintaining a safer community. The program offers four distinct certifications: Firefighter certification, Driver Operator certification, Technical Rescue certification, and National Fire Academy certification. In addition, the program offers several specialized classes to area students, including Underwater Rescue and Hazardous Materials Responses.

“The re-accreditation of the HCC Fire/EMS program is another indication of the quality of academic and workforce development programs provided by outstanding faculty and staff at our college,” said Dr. Ervin V. Griffin, president of HCC. “Kudos to Dr. Kevin Kupietz and his staff for the hard work and receipt of the accreditation of our program for the next five years. HCC is truly the place where Learning Comes to Life in Pursuit of Excellence.”

Accreditation from NCOSFM validates the training process that HCC uses to train area firefighters to help them better perform in times of need. The NCOSFM accreditation process also means that many of the HCC fire classes carry recognition from the International Fire Service Accreditation Certification (IFSAC). This international credential allows students to take their certifications to other areas and maintain employment.

The Fire/EMS program is open to men and women throughout HCC’s service area. For more information, contact Dr. Kevin Kupietz at 252-536-7293 or via email at kkupietz983@halifaxcc.edu.
