Halifax Community College and St. Augustine's University Sign Agreement

St. Augustine and HCC

WELDON, N.C. – Today, Halifax Community College (HCC) and Saint Augustine's University (SAU) announce that they have entered into an exciting new partnership. Students who receive their Associates degree from HCC, then apply and are admitted to SAU as transfer students will now have junior class status.

The agreement, signed Friday, August 19 by Dr. Ervin V. Griffin, president of HCC, and Dr. Everett B. Ward, president of SAU, allows graduates of HCC with at least a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 to be admitted to SAU with the upper class distinction—provided all other conditions for admission are satisfied.

Addressing the gathered students and faculty, President Griffin said, "This agreement will help our graduating students at HCC to have a seamless transfer experience if they choose to attend St. Augustine University. We appreciate President Ward and his staff and we are looking forward to growing the relationship between Halifax Community College and St. Augustine University."

According to President Ward, "For 149 years, Saint Augustine's has produced exceptional scholars and leaders throughout the world. Today's agreement embodies our commitment to working collaboratively to ensure that access to quality education is available for a new generation of scholars."

Located in Weldon, NC, Halifax Community College offers programs of study designed for transferring to a four-year university in Associates in Art, Science, or General Education. Saint Augustine's University, a historically black university located in Raleigh, NC, offers competitive baccalaureate degree programs in Accounting, Biology, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Organizational Management, Sport Management, Elementary Education, Media and Communications, English, Music, Theatre, Art, Chemistry, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Psychology, Sociology, Public Health, and Exercise Science.

The presidents of the institutions were joined at the signing by students, Dr. Yvonne Coston, SAU Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Dr. Deryl Davis Fulmer, Vice President of Academic Affairs at HCC.

"This articulation agreement is important because it provides our students with another seamless option and opportunity to complete a 4-year degree," said Dr. Fulmer. "Collaborations have emerged to enhance this opportunity and make this a well-suited choice for many of our students." Fulmer added that there was great respect for SAU's rich history as well as its study abroad program offerings.
