PRIDE hosts ninth annual Men to Men Summit at HCC
 
WELDON, N.C. – The PReparing Men for Intellectual, AcaDemic & Educational Success (PRIDE) of Halifax Male Mentoring and Leadership Program hosted the ninth annual Men to Men Summit at The Centre@ Halifax Community College (HCC) on April 14. "Am I My Brotherís Keeper?" was the theme for this yearís event, which was attended by more than 400 students and guests. The keynote speaker was Elijah Coles Brown, a twelve year old, gifted and dynamic inspirational speaker.

In giving his definition of "my brotherís keeper," Brown stated that a brotherís keeper is a person that makes sure someone else is protected and taken care of. Brown also stated that you should not only look out for family but for everyone. Brown got the audience to their feet with his version of a chant "I am my brotherís keeper."

A number of activities took place during the summit including a poem, breakout sessions and a luncheon. Sessions included:
  • HCC: A Place to Start Your Future
  • Preparing Teachers with Effective Classroom Language Skills: Examining the Utility of Code-Switching for Enhancing Lesson Delivery
  • Creating a Sphere of Brotherhood Influence To Navigate Systemsí Biases
Special recognitions were also handed out during the summit. Awards of appreciation were presented to Michael Earl and Marcus Lewis, former PRIDE learning coaches, for their dedicated service.
