WELDON, N.C. – Seven students completed the General Instructor Certification Training course at Halifax Community College (HCC) on Dec. 11. Graduates included:

  • Kevin Duane Cannon-retired
  • Frankie Griffin—Roanoke Rapids Police Department
  • Bob L. Lufkin—Weldon Police Department
  • George Griffin Owens—North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission
  • Jesse Stevens—Woodland Police Department
  • Timothy Vernon Wadsworth—North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission
  • Richard Randolph White—Roanoke Rapids Police Department
The course consists of 83 hours and is designed to provide the law enforcement officer with a fundamental background in the instruction of other law enforcement personnel. Successful completion of this course allows the student to apply to the Criminal Justice Training and Standards Division for certification as a law enforcement instructor.

This certification allows an instructor to teach many of the blocks of instruction offered in basic law enforcement training in addition to various in-service classes offered both in-house (police and sheriffs' departments) and the community college system. Each trainee is required to research, develop and deliver an 80-minute lesson plan as well as successfully pass the state-administered written exam.
