2012 HCC Founders Day event highlights 45 Years of Service to the Roanoke Valley
 
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College held its Founders Day Ceremony, “45 Years of Service to the Roanoke Valley” on Sept. 18 in The Centre. Representative Jimmie E. Ford, a member of the State Board of Community Colleges of North Carolina was the keynote speaker.

Ford highlighted conditions in 1967 when HCC was chartered. He also discussed the mission of the community college and the opportunities it affords citizens. Ford encouraged guests to make a difference in the world and to take advantage of the education provided by the College.

This year’s event honored elected officials—local, state and federal (representing North Carolina).

This was the fourth year that faculty and staff emeritus awards were presented:
  • 2012 Faculty Emeritus honorees included Kenneth Harris, John Hunsucker, Sr. (posthumously), Ann Boyd Smith and Mary Tillery
  • 2012 Staff Emeritus honorees included Deborah Armstrong, Shelia Grosser, Cathy Vassor, Mary Gail Cooper Wade and Karen Wright (posthumously)
