International Day & Food Tasting event slated for Feb. 23 at HCC
 
WELDON, N.C. – Halifax Community College (HCC) will host its fifth annual International Day & Food Tasting event Feb. 23 as part of 2012 Lyceum Series of Special Events. The event begins at 11 a.m. in The Centre.

Prior to the food tasting, guests will be treated to a cultural awareness panel discussion. Panelists will include:

  • School of Business Chair/Business Administration Program Head Lateef Balogun (Nigeria)
  • HCC Student Bouke Bylsma (South Africa)
  • Early Childhood Instructor Sithah Campbell (Malaysia)
  • Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning Dr. Edwin Imasuen (Nigeria)
  • Information Systems Technologies Department Chair/Computer Information Systems Instructor Emmanuel Obi (Nigeria)
  • Community member Haydee Vives (Puerto Rico)
For the food tasting, guests will have the opportunity to sample foods from around the world. There is a $2 admission fee per plate for the food tasting.

Featured foods will give guests a taste of multiple cultures:

  • Entrees will include, but are not limited to: Arroz Con Gondules, Arroz Con Pollo, curry chicken, chicken and rice, specialty pizzas, Cajun fried turkey, barbecued and traditional pigs’ feet, baked ziti with meat sauce, barbecue, Brunswick stew, meatballs, chitterlings, hog jaws, Boston butt with white bread and hot sauce, and oven-fried chicken breasts.
  • Side dishes and vegetables will include: chicken fried rice, shrimp fried rice, butter beans, sausage dip, collard greens and potato salad.
  • Desserts will include: Scottish shortbread, banana pudding, carrot cake and coconut pies. Pepsi products will be the featured beverage.
