The Golden LEAF Foundation has provided 7,755 scholarships totaling more than $21 million since 2001 when the Golden LEAF Scholarship Program was created to benefit students from rural North Carolina and their families.
The awards are up to $750 per semester, including the summer term for curriculum students and up to $250 per semester for students enrolling in occupational programs. Awards can be applied toward tuition, fees, books, supplies at the community college where recipients are enrolled and transportation and child care expenses related to attending classes.
Since Golden LEAF’s establishment in 1999, the Foundation has supported projects and programs, which have helped transform our state’s economy from one based almost solely on agriculture and traditional manufacturing to a diverse economy consisting increasingly of value-added agriculture, advanced materials, aerospace and other technology-based industries. The Golden LEAF Foundation also offers scholarships for students transferring from community colleges to attend participating four-year colleges and universities.
