WELDON, N.C. – On Sept. 15, the Halifax Community College (HCC) Foundation Inc. hosted its first-ever golf event, the Cummins-Halifax Community College Foundation Inc. Golf Tournament at Chockoyotte Country Club in Weldon. The total amount raised was $11,535, which will provide assistance for student scholarships, activities and expenses.
The corporate sponsor for the event was Cummins Inc.-Rocky Mount Engine Plant. Due to the generosity of sponsors, donors and players, a $5,000 endowed scholarship in the name of Cummins will be created to benefit HCC students.
Seventeen teams participated in the tournament. First-place honors went to the Dean Team of Billy Barnes, Lawrence “Chip” Clifton, David Dean and Rob Gowen. A second-place finish was garnered by the BB&T Team of Wayne Brown, Dennis Davis, Mark Dickinson and Bill Wiese. Third-place honors went to the Halifax Electric Membership Corporation Team of M.C. Little, Troy Matthews, Danny Pendergrass and Alvin Salmon. The longest-drive-contest winner was Mike Ordnung, and the closest-to-the-pin contest winner was Bruce May. Five gift certificates were donated by david’s Restaurant, worth $20 each, as door prizes.
