HCC hosts 23rd Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony
Scholarship donors and recipients recognized

The Halifax Community College (HCC) Foundation hosted its 23rd Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 22, in The Centre on the college’s campus. A luncheon for scholarship representatives and recipients was provided.

This year, 106 scholarships were awarded to 59 HCC students, totaling more than $75,000 in scholarship awards. Individuals, businesses, civic and professional groups make scholarship awards possible. The scholarships vary widely in amount and selection criteria.

“We appreciate you taking time from your busy schedules to offer support for our students and appreciation for their accomplishments. We sincerely appreciate your unfailing support to the scholarship program and to HCC,” said HCC President, Dr. Ervin V. Griffin, Sr. to supporters.

HCC Foundation Board Chairman Charles McElheney recognized representatives of newly established scholarships. Also, HCC student Joshua Gardner gave remarks on behalf of student recipients. “It is through scholarships and donations like these that students like us are able to receive an education outside of high school,” said Gardner.

The Halifax Community College Foundation, Inc. was established on April 7, 1976. At the time, college leadership determined that new sources of funding would be necessary to enable the college to carry out its planned programs and to assist students who were ineligible for traditional financial aid. The foundation was created as the main vehicle for raising tax-deductible funds from the private sector. Foundation personnel conduct an annual Campus Fund Drive and a community fund drive to solicit support.
