IPEDS data compares HCC with 7500 colleges across the nation. The 2012 and 2013 IPEDS collects institution-level data on students, particularly on enrollment and graduation rates, student charges, program completions, faculty , staff and finances. Parents often use this information when searching for colleges for their children and colleges use this information for benchmarking and peer analysis.

The State of North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) uses performance measures to inform colleges and the public on the performance of our 58 community colleges. Colleges are assessed on 8 outcome measures and compared to each other. Benchmarks are established and target goals that challenge each of us to be accountable to ensuring student success. HCC met all of the 2013 goals with the exception of the transfer performance rate. HCC met all of the 2014 goals with the exception of the GED pass rate. The NC Performance Measures 2013 and 2014 and specific information about HCC is available here: 2014 Performance Measures powerpoint.

Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCCSSE) provides colleges with invaluable information about how students interact and engage with the college. Engagement is key to student success. The CCSSE 2013 and the CCSSE Benchmark Report are very informative. These reports also tell you how we compare in a variety of areas that are important for student success and the college experience.

Two other surveys that provide our college with additional information and confirmation about the success of our programs and quality of our teaching are the Graduate Surveys 2013 and 2014 and the Student Satisfaction Surveys for Fall 2012 and Spring 2014. These tell us more about the student experience and how satisfied they are with our curriculum, our facilities, the activities, parking, food, etc.

The 2013 Institutional Effectiveness Plan Results provide evidence that HCC is continuously striving to promote the mission and goals identified in the Strategic Plan. This report not only identifies the goals and learning outcomes intended, but indicates how we use the results of our work to inform continuous improvements.
